Indian Mood / Simas / Art Direction & Graphics

2011 /  Simas was one of the participants in the exhibit Metamorfosi, hosted by Ceramics Tiles of Italy at the Triennale during the Salone del Mobile, and they invited me to design their installation. The concept for the exhibit revolved around world travel and I choose India as my theme. I asked artist Nuala Goodman, who works extensively with decoration and in particular FLOCKING, to collaborate with me on the project. Together we came up with playful and ironic patterns inspired by colorful India, and mounted a sculptural installation for the exhibit as a homage to Sottass.  India was influential for him and his Memphis sculptures inspired our sculptural totems in the installation. We decorated my collection E-line, which was launched that year, using the decalcomania technique (the same technique used for the Impronte Collection). Patterns were designed, stencils produced and applied to each piece which were then cooked at high temperatures transforming the applied decorations into indelible coatings. Nuala’s flock was the last step of the decorations.
