Hotelroyal / Zanotta / Product Design

2017/ I was inspired by the Gio Ponti headboards of the early 60’s, in particular, one from the ‘Hotel Royal’ in Naples.  In designing this bed for Zanotta I wanted to achieve a contemporary version of those iconic designs.

The light proportion and shape of the upholstered head and foot boards have a modern vintage mood, including the fabric covered buttons. Those add a domestic touch and recall mid-century contract furniture classics. A clean, visible border detail, tone-on-tone or contrasting, defines the rounded corners on all the upholstery. The extra slim metal legs with tubular supports are also a retro-reference and create a balance with the fabric elements.

The Hotelroyal headboard is available in two sizes. The widest accommodates a geometrically  designed side-table which was conceived as an object to ‘adorn’ the bed. It’s the perfect dimension to place your essentials on.
